There's something a little perverse about having much-loved, sentimental Christmas tunes nail-gunned to your brain with the help of a couple of thousand watts of heavy distortion and shredded chorus licks.
As a veteran Motorheadbanger, I find this very satisfying, and can't wait to surprise the family and friends when the turkey's served up this Christmas.
The CD I received is in excellent nick, was packaged well, with acceptable postal charges and no import tariffs (very important, that!).
With it's soaring and plaintive sax and lead guitar breaks, this little gem from former half of The Humblebums (folky double with Billy Connolly) Gerry Rafferty has the musical chops to be included in the Top 10 of anyone's All Time Favourites list, especially if, like me, you were 18 in 1978 (when this song was released) and had heard this song every day on the radio throughout the "long, hot summer" (not as iconic as '67, but getting there) on your last year at grammar school ("high school" to North Americans) in England. For me, this song is definitively nostalgic.
Added to the fact that the single I received is in tip-top condition and, coming from a Canadian shop, having negligible shipping fees and NO IMPORT extortion, makes for another unicorn in the record collector's universe.
